Liquid soap dispensers are an important part of good hand hygiene, it is not good enough to simply run your hands under the water.

The Mayo Clinic advises that after wetting your hands and applying soap, you rub your hands vigorously for at least 20 seconds, and remember to scrub all surfaces, including the backs of  hands, wrists, between your fingers and under your fingernails.

Soap provision is often a legal requirement for commercial bathroom and kitchen areas where hand hygiene is important.
